It’s the first day of our much-dreaded dashboard week.  Our challenge for today was to use an API to get data on Game of Thrones (GoT).

We could choose from data on GoT characters, the books and the Houses.  I chose to look at the characters.

I have extracted the data using API, cleaned and transformed the data in Alteryx. Image of the Alteryx workflow is attached (see figure below).  If you need more information on how to use an API in Alteryx check this blog https://www.thedataschool.com.au/jason-lu/6-simple-steps-to-parsing-json-from-apis/ by fellow data schooler.

As there was data on the titles the characters held I decided to see what were the most popular titles in GoT.  We had gender information so I looked at the gender breakdown as well.

Here’s the Tableau dashboard!

Tableau Dashboard on Titles held by Game of Throne Characters

The most common titles of the Game of Throne characters were ser and Lord.  The gender breakdown shows that around 91% of the overall titles were held by Men and under 10% were held by Women.
