Today, we were given a second dashboard challenge to find out the best location for a café or restaurant in the City of Melbourne.

Opening a café or restaurant can be a difficult and risky decision, especially when it comes to choosing the right location. We want to pick a spot that will attract customers and support the business, but how can you be sure which area is the best fit?

We will use PowerBI for this challenge to help us make a well-informed decision.

The first step – is to gather and enrich the data. I found some useful information on the City of Melbourne website, specifically population forecasts and resident profiles, as these can give us insights into potential customer bases and spending power for our business.

The second step – is to clean and organize the data using Alteryx. This will help us prepare the data for analysis in PowerBI.

The last step – is to start exploring and building a dashboard in PowerBI.

One challenge I faced is adding map layers to the viz, as we want to show the potential locations in relation to points of interest.

However, I was able to find a solution by using the purchasing power data, which turned out to be helpful in our analysis.

As we can see, the population in Melbourne is steadily growing, which makes it a great time to open a café or restaurant in the city.

However, the key question is where to open the business. This will depend on the target market for the café or restaurant.

East Melbourne is a recommended suburb for attracting high-end customers. Carlton is a better choice if we want to target young people.
