Hi everyone, my name is Ivy and I recently started working as a data consultant at the Data School Down Under. In this blog post, I would like to share my experiences from my first week on the job and give you a glimpse of my journey as I continue to develop my skills.

We were taught a variety of techniques in Tableau, including the use of parameters, creation of donut charts, heat maps and so on. One of the most valuable lessons was the simple yet effective technique of sketching out dashboard designs before utilizing Tableau. This approach provides a clear plan for client projects and enables me to receive effective feedback from clients. Beyond the structured learning program, I had the chance to connect with many intelligent and skilled peers and coaches and engage in stimulating conversations with them. These interactions not only allowed me to deepen my understanding of the material, but also exposed me to diverse perspectives and ideas.

Adapting to the High-Paced Learning Environment

However, I faced a challenge in my first week due to the high pace of learning. The amount of information I needed to absorb in a short period of time was overwhelming at times, but I am confident that I will quickly adjust to this pace. This week’s presentation on revising our previous application dashboard was a great reminder that it is a continuous process to improve and deliver better dashboards using methodologies like Agile. I am also looking forward to next week’s Alteryx training, as I know I will learn a lot.

In summary, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and growth opportunities during my time at the Data School. I am eager to see where my skills will take me in the future. I am thankful for being a member of such an outstanding team and look forward to seeing what lies ahead.
