I have just finished the first week here in the Data School, and I want to share some thoughts on my journey of getting into Data School.

Since October last year, I started working on my first tableau Viz. In the beginning, I watched many YouTube videos and demo videos on the tableau website. I have to say, the tool is very powerful, and I was amazed by the capacity of the tableau each day.

I received the feedback the first day after the application deadline, and I was given a lot of constructive feedback on how to improve my dashboard. My following interview was scheduled a week after, so I can use this week to tweak my dashboard. However, some of my colleagues didn’t receive feedback after almost one month. If that’s the case, feel free to reach out to the instructors in data school. Everyone is here to help. By doing this, you also show your passion for this role.

Once you succeed in the visual interview, you will receive a big data set assigned by Data School for the last discussion. Congratulations, you have made it to this final stage! There will be two parts to the final interview; the first will be a demonstration of your Viz, and the second will be the behaviour interviews with another group of interviewees. Both interviews will last for 30 mins, giving you enough time for them to better understand you and to know data school better.

Below are three little tips for you:

  • Choose the dataset that sparks your interest.

Choosing the dataset that sparks your interest will also motivate you to work harder to find the insights of the dataset. If you have worked in other industries, you could find some data sets that you are familiar with in your field. In this way, you can also show your expertise in your industry as the data school has a lot of clients from different industries. By doing this, you showed your ability to add value to Data school.

  • Bring your passion

Bring your passion for the dataset and bring questions if you have any! The 16-week course can be tough; however, you will enjoy the challenges if you are passionate about what you are doing. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any background in Data Analytics, but the love for being a Data Analytic Consultant does matter.

  • Enjoy the interviews

If you treat the interview as sharing insights with your friends, you will enjoy the interview more than just treating it as a task.

However, if you didn’t make it after the final stage, don’t feel frustrated; you have already proved yourself with a lot of fantastic work. Also, you can always try to reapply for the program if you are still interested.

I hope you find this blog useful, and best of luck to all the data enthusiasts for your journey.
