Dashboard Week has officially begun! If you’re curious about what it entails at the Data School, it’s all about creating one dashboard per day throughout the week. By the end, we’ll have built a total of five dashboards.
On Day 1, we received the Himalayan Expedition Dataset, which includes details about various peaks, climbers, injuries or fatalities, as well as journals and books documenting the expeditions. Our challenge is to uncover a story from the dataset and bring it to life on a dashboard by the end of the day. The clock is ticking…
Kickoff
To start, I reviewed the database website and the data dictionary to gain a better understanding of the data. Although I couldn’t memorize every detail of all the fields across the tables—given their sheer volume—I referred back to them as needed while building the dashboard.
My Story
My story focused on Australians who participated in Himalayan expeditions, analyzing their numbers, global ranking, gender and age distribution, and whether they opted for commercial or non-commercial routes.
