It’s Day 2 of Dashboard Week and we’re alternating to Power BI for today’s challenge.
The beautiful Chantel chose an extensive and clean dataset relating to global coal and metal mine production. A bit about the data – 1,171 mines, 80 materials, 12 tables structured as a relational database and reports made at a mine-level dating from 2000 – 2021. Spookily ironic, as I had a recent discussion with a few members of my cohort about this very topic, so I was excited to get some answers.
As with these daily dashboard-challenges, my aim was to narrow down the topic and identify a storyline within the data. Although I decided to focus on coal mining production very early in the game, determining which tables to include in my data model served to be difficult. The reason being, I still needed to have a base understanding on the metal mining components to ensure I didn’t miss any coal related mining data to piece together a viable storyline.
Behold, the final schema.
