For the last day, we needed to build and present our dashboard on the same day. Fortunately, the dataset is IMDB and we were using Tableau (not hating on Power BI, just that Tableau gives us a bit more freedom on how we want to do things).
Getting Started
While the dataset is simple, it is actually huge (roughly 8GB of data). The Coach suggested to filter it down to a subset, since Tableau could go ‘crazy’ with that amount of information, and so I did. Time boxing was critical and we did not have all day, it was best to quickly lock in a topic to explore, and luckily, it didn’t take me too long.
I also took a bit of time to a rough layout before jumping into Tableau. That helped guide my thoughts and avoid too many detours as I explored the data. Honestly, this part was probably what saved me later in the day.
Start Building
As I was building out my dashboard, I kept bringing in more complimentary data to enrich the story. I played around with different chart types and layouts, trying to keeps things coherence and engaging.
A bit of action, a bit of colour and many stickers style images.

Final Thought
This last Dashboard Week blog is pretty short, because it is drama-free. I did not know we can build a dashboard within 3 hours (a decent one as well). Overall, I was happy 🙂
