On our second week with the Data School, we were introduced to Alteryx Designer, a powerful data analytics tool that allows us to easily blend, prepare, and analyse data through a user-friendly, drag-and-drop interface. This introduction provided us with foundational skills in building workflows, automating data processes, and generating insights, all of which are essential for tackling complex data challenges efficiently.
One of the things I appreciate most about Alteryx is how intuitive it is. The tools are very straightforward and easy to understand, even for someone with minimal coding experience. This simplicity allows me to focus more on solving the data problems at hand rather than stuck with technical complexities. There are so many tools available for various stages of data preparation, from data cleansing, transforming and even joining dataset. These tools are incredibly useful to help getting my data ready for visualisation and analysis
Another aspect I really enjoy is the flexibility it offers. There are often many different ways to approach a data problem and achieve the desired result. During training, I found it fascinating to compare my workflows with the others, each of us often arriving at the same outcome through different methods. This not only broadens my understanding but also gives new ideas on how to approach future challenges.
Moreover, Alteryx community is very active, which give a significant advantage for new learners. The weekly challenges feel like solving a fun puzzle, and the shared solutions create a collaborative environment. It’s inspiring to see how others tackle problems and to learn from their creative approaches.
Our coach, Shane, also suggested to take the Alteryx Core Certification exam early on to understand the expectations and to learn from the experience. The exam is open-source, so familiarising oneself with the community pages and Alteryx resources is key. I decided to give it a try after just a short time of learning Alteryx and was genuinely surprised and pleased to pass.
Overall, my experience with Alteryx has been very rewarding and positive. I wished I had discovered about Alteryx much sooner, and I’m looking forward to continue exploring and learning more about it.
